Self-study is one of the easiest options for getting certified. If you are already working in the field and feel comfortable reviewing and studying the information on your own this could be a great route for you. This involves purchasing the box set for your desired certification and studying the material on your own. Both IAHCSMM and The CBSPD offer box sets for their respective exams. These sets range from $99 to $165 and include a textbook and corresponding workbook.
These box sets are both well put together and cover a great deal of detail. For every chapter in the textbook, there is a corresponding chapter in the workbook that is to be completed as you progress through the course.
One advantage of self-study is that you can work at your own pace. Whether you’re one that learns quickly or one that may need a little more time to fully understand a subject area, self-study allows you the flexibility to progress through the material as fast or as slow as you’d like. There is no pressure with this method and when you feel that you are ready to sit for the exam you can simply submit your application and schedule your testing date.
