The IAHCSMM Conference and Expo is the biggest sterile processing related conference there is. It is nearly a week-long conference that brings out thousands of sterile processing professionals every year. This year the conference will be held in beautiful San Antonio, Texas on April 24th to the 27th. The IAHCSMM Conference has so much to offer including hands-on demonstrations from vendors all over the world, workshops, networking, continuing education credits, and some of the industry top experts speaking on the hottest topics. So you want to go right? One catch, it comes at a pretty hefty price, one that a lot of us simply cannot afford. Registration for current IAHCSMM members is $450 and $550 for non-members, that includes full access to the entire event. Plus you have to consider travel expenses, hotel stay, and securing time off work. Sound like a lot right? Well, I can assure you that it is worth every penny. I personally have never had the pleasure of attending this amazing conference, and unfortunately, it will remain that way unless I could earn a scholarship.
So that brings me to the main topic of this article, scholarships. You may or may not have known this, but there are companies that offer sterile processing professionals scholarships to attend the annual IAHCSMM Conference and Expo! Aesculap is providing a scholarship for up to ten sterile processing professionals that covers the registration cost of $450. Applicants must be currently employed in the sterile processing or central service for a minimum of 6 months and demonstrate advocacy for best practices. Along with the application, applicants need also to submit a brief answer to, “Why I want to attend the 2016 IAHCSMM Conference”.
That is a fairly simple process for the chance to receive a scholarship. Below there is a link to the IAHCSMM Conference and Expo website, there is also a PDF download of the Aesculap scholarship application. I encourage everyone to apply for this scholarship as you will be gaining so much in your professional career, not to mention San Antonio was listed as number 18 on Travel & Leisure’s 2016 best places to travel. If you know of any other scholarship of sponsorship for the IAHCSMM Conference please leave a comment with the information.
*Be sure to submit your application soon, the deadline is January 22nd, 2016.

Will the sterile processing recruiter deny the housing stipend if the traveling sterile processor forwards their mail to the new temporary housing in the location where he or she will be working? Does anyone know the answer to this? I would like to forward the mail but am worried that the recruiter will think I moved to the location permanently and deny my housing stipend.
Hi Elizabeth,
This would not be a problem, as long as your “permanent” address remains the same. However, it could become an issue when you move on to your next assignment and mail continues to go to the forwarded address (you would constantly need to change forwarding addresses). I personally had my mail forwarded to a relatives house and got a temporary P.O. Box in my travel assignment location then had my relative send me my mail every couple weeks. Hope this is helpful.
Submit an application for the Aesculap scholarship! There will be ten recipients.
There will!?!? Hmmm 😉
Yup. Head over to The SPD Network for more information and to download an application!
Thank you
